Well there are some differences. Pat Robertson is a religious bigot and thinks the earthquake is the result of God punishing the wicked. I think geophysics caused the earthquake and ignorance caused the great loss of life and suffering. If you build your house in a known fault zone, you had better be prepared for an earthquake. Haiti has never been prepared for any future event and when disaster strikes they expect someone to come to their rescue.
The United States is a facilitator and foul weather friend. We feel good when we help during disasters, but ignore the times when the country needs a true helping hand. Illiteracy is the true devil in Haiti. Poverty is so severe that 50% of the people live on less than $1 a day and 75% on less than $2 a day.
Haitian leaders are going to make millions of dollars and our political leaders are expecting to collect millions of votes because of their compassion for the down-trodden.
It is the American people supplying this money and the politicians accepting all the glory.
American government is the devil for the American citizenry.
I suggest that every caring American read - How America Can Rise Again by James Fallows in the Jan/Feb 2010 The Atlantic.
